On the propagation of transverse waves in the lower solar atmosphere
Two approaches are used for the description of linear transverse (kink) modes in a vertical thin magnetic flux tube. The first one is based on the elastic thread model. The second one follows from the Taylor and Laurent series expansions of wave variables with respect to the tube radius inside and outside the magnetic flux tube, respectively. The main reason for the discrepancy between these approaches was shown to relate to the phenomenological equation of Spruit (1981), which is not quite correct.
